Vashishth Narayan Singh, a brilliant mind of Bihar, was an Indian academic. He was born on 2nd April 1946 in Basantpur Bhojpur, Bihar.

His father was a police constable. He was a child prodigy.He completed his schooling from “Netarhat Residential School” then he moved to “Patna Science College” for his graduation. In 1965 he later moved towards “University Of California,Berkeley” where he received a PhD in “Cycle Vectors Space Theory” in 1969 under John.L.Kelley.

After completing his PhD he joined “University of Washington” as an “assistant professor”. Though he was nicely settled there but he always wanted to serve his nation so he came back to India in 1974.In India he started teaching at “Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur” later he joined “Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay” and then he was appointed as a faculty at the “Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata”.

He married to Vandana Rani Singh in 1973 but they divorced in 1976. He was later diagnosed with “schizophrenia”. In 1970’s he was admitted to” Central Institute of psychiatry,Kanke” till 1985. During his train journey in 1989 he was disappeared and found after 4 years near “Doriganj ,Chhapra”.After this incident he was admitted to “National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore” and later to “Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences ,Delhi” in 2002.

He was died on 14 November 2019 due to his prolonged illness .He was awarded the “Padma Shri” in 2020.

 Vashishth Narayan Singh carried forward The legacy of Aryabhatt and glorified Bihar.
